Synopsis:

On the eve of the Candelaria festival in Mexico, Ariana suffers her love for the Cebu bull that lives in the countryside on the other side of the river. At the celebration, Cebu will be taken to the village to be persecuted and killed. Among the persecutors is Manuel, Ariana´s husband and father of the baby she carries. The scorching sun will illuminate the pilgrims of the virgin and the persecutors of the bull, the damp night to the demons. Manuel will face his death dancing the song “El toro Zacamandú” in front of Ariana. The village musicians will play and sing the final dance for them.

Biography:

Muriel Escalera (Xalapa, Veracruz, 1993) is a film director graduated from Fundación Universidad del Cine, Buenos Aires. In her hometown she studied the traditional musical genre of Son Jarocho, of which her first feature film “Toro entre aguas” talks about. In México city she worked for various local producers and productions, beginning the film business as a producer, assistant director and actress. In Buenos Aires she directed two short films “Gritos” and “La comisura”. Now in Xalapa, she founded the production company Jaratuk and teaches film production at the university Luis Buñuel.
