Immersed in the natural landscape of the Colombian plains, Meli (9) tries to find a way to pull
her mother out of her emotional crisis.
Manuela Irene studied a Bachelor’s degree at CENTRO (MX) and an MA on Screenwriting at London Film School. With her feature project, Xibalba Monster, she obtained the Young Creators Grant in 2010 (FONCA). In 2013, she participated in the International Residence and Workshop for Filmmakers Cine Qua Non Lab and the Course for Development of Ibero-American Projects held by IBERMEDIA. In 2018, she was selected for the IMCINE and TyPA Foundation Workshop for First and Second Films.
Her short film, A Gesture (2015) was part of the Official Selection of 13 th Morelia International Film Festival (2015), Cinélatino 28 emmes Rencontres de Toulouse (2016) and Shorts Mexico (2016). In 2017, she collaborated as producer and editor for the feature film
Serpent’s Paradise by director Bernardo Arellano.
In 2019, she wrote, directed and co-produced the short Sol del llano, shot in the Colombian plains. Sol del llano premiered at Morelia International Film Festival 2019 obtaining the Renta Imagen Award. It was Official Selection at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and at REGARD Saguenay International Short Film Festival, where it was awarded the Special Mention of the Jury. Sol del llano is also Official Selection at Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival Curta Kinoforum that will take place in September.
