Synopsis:

darkness > in the depths of the working class neighborhoods, in the absurdity of the rubble of endless nights,
night > in this nocturnal shipwreck of the physical and symbolic power cut,
resistance > abandoned to itself like a motherless chick, like a pot without a lid, like a house without a window, without a door, like a door without a lock, like a lock without a key…
light > resilience,
darkness > and the beauty of resistance?

Biography:

Nelson Makengo was born 1990 in Kinshasa, DR Congo. He is a photographer and filmmaker. He attended The Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, completing his studies in 2015. Nelson Makengo is a self-taught film producer who has been able to complete many projects even with a lack of resources. Nelson directs and records his own audio, as well as produce and edit his own films. He was one of the 10 Congolese artists selected to participate in July and October’s 2017 Atelier Picha, an artistic support workshop held in Lubumbashi by Picha asbl and presented his last film E’ville at the Lubumbashi Biennal. In 2018, he was selected to receive an artist residency at Wiels, one of the leading institutions for contemporary art in Europe.
